How to Measure Your Table and Choose the Perfect Tablecloth Size
Finding the perfect tablecloth begins with knowing your table’s size and the look you’d like to achieve. Whether you’re setting a relaxed brunch table or styling for an evening gathering, the right fit brings everything into balance. Here is how to achieve that in three simple steps.
Step 1: Measure your table
Start by measuring the length and width of your table. These two measurements form the foundation for finding your perfect tablecloth size.
Step 2: Decide on the drop
The drop refers to how much fabric hangs over the edge of the table. This simple detail transforms the look and feel of your setting.
-
For a relaxed everyday look, allow for a drop of around 20–25 cm on each side.
-
For a formal or elegant table, opt for 30–40 cm for a fuller, more draped appearance.
Step 3: Calculate your tablecloth size
Once you’ve chosen your preferred drop, add it twice — once for each side — to both the length and width of your table.
Example:
A table measuring 100 × 170 cm with a 30 cm drop requires a tablecloth that’s approximately 160 × 230 cm (because we’ve added 60cm to each measurement of length and width).
If your table falls between sizes or isn’t quite so balanced between typical length and width sizes, we recommend choosing the larger option for a more generous and balanced drape.

If you don’t have a tape measure, use this as a quick reference:
-
160 × 230 cm – suitable for a 6–8 seat table
-
160 × 275 cm – suitable for an 8–10 seat table
-
160 × 365 cm – suitable for a 10–14 seat table
